Our original planter box was Gheorghe’s Cedar Garden Box. We sold hundreds of these when we first got started in the garden box business. We still sell many of them today.

Over time, however, the input and requests we received from customers led to some evolving features. The resulting box style with these new features became even more popular than the original box.

Joseph’s Cedar Planter Box

The most obvious difference between the two styles is that the Joseph box has a simpler, cleaner look on its exterior. The vertical pieces which hold the walls together are inside the box instead of on the outside. Also, the Joseph box has 3-inch legs which keeps the floor of the box off the ground. This allows for air circulation beneath the box floor. This is great for the roots.

This box is carefully built by hand and lightly sanded for a clean, simple look.

We leave 1/8″ gaps between the boards at the bottom of the box for water drainage. If you would like some holes drilled through the box floor for additional drainage, be sure to check that option.

This easy-to-carry, lightweight box is easy to move around when it’s time for potting or harvesting.

The Monique Cedar Herb Garden Box arrives to your door already assembled. Just take it out of its packaging and start filling it with soil with no delay.

Each Monique is carefully built by hand with rot-resistant cedar wood. Cedar also repels many of the bugs that would like to eat the produce you’re growing. Each piece is held together with galvanized fasteners.

How deep does the soil need to be for herbs?

Herbs are pretty adaptable. So long as they get enough water, sunshine and nutrients, herbs will grow in a variety of environments. 3 to 12 inches is common for most shallow herbs. The standard depth for soil in this standard planter box is 5 inches. We will soon have these available with varying lengths and depths.
