Description

A modern version of a rustic farmhouse table. The Mollie Vaughn is a modified version of the Shanty 2 Chic farmhouse table which they call The Fancy V. The key difference is that I bring the leg structures inward, farther away from the ends of the table. This enables someone to sit comfortably at the head of the table with around 9 inches of legroom.

The 8-foot version of this table seats 8 people; 3 people on each side and another person at the head of the table at both ends.  Reducing the table length to 6 or 7 feet will limit you to 2 chairs on each side. However, not many people have the space for an 8-foot table.

Fancy V – Shanty 2 Chic Farmhouse Table

The Shanty sisters posted their video of the Fancy V dining table in September 2018.

That same week, I gathered all the materials to make my own version of this table. Instead of using the Briarsmoke stain (by Varathane) that they used in the video, I used Varathane’s Antique White stain. I wanted a lighter look on my table, but I still wanted to clearly see the wood grain.

Dark stains can often hide imperfections in how you apply the stain. But the white stain makes sloppy staining techniques plain and obvious for all to see. After applying 3 coats of this stain in my first attempt with Antique White, I sanded the tabletop down to the bare wood and started over.

The second time around, however, I got the stain just right and it turned out beautifully. 3 coats of polyurethane later, the table was done. My name for this table is Mollie Vaughn since the leg structure features an “M” in addition to a “V.”

I loved making this table and I’m looking forward to making it again for your home. Let me know about the particular dimensions and color you have in mind for your table. I’m looking forward to working with you.
